PH Quickie: this is how Israel is getting even more influence in the US

The Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz reported yesterday:
WASHINGTON – The billionaire American-Israeli media mogul Haim Saban recently donated $1 million to the super PAC launched by AIPAC late last year. His contribution to the United Democracy Project is the single biggest individual donation to the super PAC to date, and second only to the pro-Israel lobby’s own donation of $8.5 million.
And just like that, with the flourish of a billionaire’s pen, the possibility of a just peace for Palestinians and Israelis takes one giant step back.
Advocates for Palestinian rights have been saying for years that a solution is unlikely anytime soon. Israel is making no concessions and Palestinians have already conceded too much, so there is nothing to talk about, let alone agree on.
It has been encouraging to see the many major human rights reports labeling Israel an apartheid state. This has given us hope – Israel’s reputation is hitting the skids. We’ve been waiting for the day when the global community will wash its hands of the pariah state.
But now?
$9.5 million can buy a lot of spit and polish for a tarnished reputation.
Even as Israel is killing Palestinians at a dangerously high rate, it is paying spin doctors to call it “self-defense,” not police brutality.
Apartheid labels will no doubt continue to be cranked out, but big money will likely drown out the truth.
The only hope is for people of conscious to open their mouths and shout that Israeli human rights abuse must stop. The time of silence is over.
Make noise.
